So my roommates and I decided to get a new puppy finally as we lost ours a few months ago. We ended up picking up a 8 week old male chow/springer spaniel mix. When we first went to their house, he seemed very mellow and lovely, he clung to my shoulder instantly when I picked him up. The 2 hour car ride home went well, he sat in my roommates lap and just cuddled with her the entire time, didn’t make a sound.

He seemed pretty well house broken already as soon as he gets put on the grass he does his business and had no problems sleeping for 8 hours with me and not having any accidents.

The next day, he went out and did his business and then had two accidents on a carpet within 20 minutes, which was a bit surprising (although he is a puppy, so it happens.) The main things we are worried about now is something other behavior that seems to be a trend.

He is very mellow, but hes so mellow to the point that he doesn’t like to walk anywhere. When hes out on the lawn he runs around, has a grand ole time and eats all our dandelions (hooray!). However, we bring him in the house and he basically refuses to walk. He will sometimes do a few circles around the area rugs, but when hes on our hardwood or linoleum, he just sits there and whines. He doesn’t come to anyone when we try to get him to move around, not even if we have a treat in our hands.

He just sits in his crate in the farthest corner and lays there, only coming out to eat and drink and then retreat back in to the crate. If anyone comes near him, he gets a very worried look on his face and his heart races and gets jittery, almost like hes worried we are going to beat him.

If he is up on a chair or on the bed, he whines and whines and won’t even try to get down by himself, but shys away when someone comes to get him.

The home he came from seemed like they were good to him, their other dogs were well behaved and responded to hand signals, but were VERY skiddish around us, flinching and jumping back from even the slightest movement from us.

When I try to go to bed, he refuses to sleep anywhere except in my bed. I try to just let him sleep in the crate, but he starts to whine as soon as the lights go off.

I am just a bit worried that maybe he was traumatized a lot or if its something we are doing wrong, but I don’t really see what it could be. Our last dog didn’t really have any problems adjusting to her new environment.

He has been digging around at the mat in the crate and hanging out on the same parts of the carpet that our last dog used to lay the most, smelling her perhaps.

My house is brown the walls are brown, the floors are brown and the trim is…well cream but still brownish. My son said he gets to pick the next wall color if I ever decide to repaint and it isn’t going to be brown. The idea was to give me a blank slate so I can change colors with accents but the effect is boring with a bunch of colors fling-ed on it to look interesting (if not haphazard).

I have this ottoman it has a royal blue, grassy kinda olive green, gold and you guessed it brown paisley print this was supposed to be the inspiration piece. From there somehow I bought these wood based black lamps with white shades which I liked the shape but black really doesn’t go. I have a gold slipcover couch which I thought I was being subtle picking up the gold in the ottoman but really it is the most minor part of the print in front of the gold couch is a black leather trunk I loved for storage and thought the black would bring in the lamps which did not match. The two couches (the other is a hand-me-down from my sister an IKEA white couch) I have are cluttered with five pairs of pillows none of which match the ottoman green but are various attempts. I have five wood pieces none of them match in style or type of wood and another sister hand-me-down a white and silver legged IKEA desk oh I know like I needed to bring silver into this. I got overly excited at finding a blue painting with green and brown in it (of the sea) so I feel silly about getting rid of it but it’s teal and doesn’t match a thing I guess it can go being a flea market find. Finally if all that isn’t enough I have a brass lamp and two area rugs that do not match one is haha dark brown the other green and yellow.

Anyhow long and short of it is I have so much going on in these two rooms that it stops looking neutral and starts looking crazy. How do I get it toned down? I do not mind removing some pieces but I really REALLY do not want to paint (it took 5 days and 4 coats not doing that again). Can you help?

In February 2011 my boyfriend bought a seven week golden retriever. From Feb. to the end of May they spent every weekend at my new home (I am Canadian and he is American). During this time the puppy urinated and defecated on all my wool hand stitched area rugs causing a great deal of staining. The pup also chewed on my pedestal dining room table and the rungs of three of the six dining room chairs and 2 of my four counter chairs. She also ripped/tore a number of clothes and ate two pairs of my shoes and urinated on two brand new bedspreads. She was housed in a large crate at night but while we were home she was allowed to be with us.

The last week of May I offered to watch the pup while my boyfriend prepared his boat for the water. This generous offer turned into almost three full weeks until I finally took the pup home myself. During these three weeks she continued to damage my property by chewing on my headboard, ate my prescription glasses and cell phone along with other miscellaneous damage.

Initially my boyfriend said he would pay to have my carpets cleaned (and even dropped them off for me over a month ago at a reputable rug cleaning service in Michigan). The price for the cleaning escalated as they had to treat the carpets for urine stains over and above the normal cleaning cost. He also originally stated he would pay for my furniture repairs which I paid 0.00 to have done. He never agreed to pay for my phone or eyeglasses as he said I shouldn’t have left them out for her to get. Granted they were on my bathroom vanity and kitchen counter respectively, but he claimed it was still my fault.

In total I have ,150.00 in property damage to which he now states he is not responsible for. This entire situation has pretty much ended our relationship of a year as I truly believe as the Registered Dog Owner he is Responsible for these damages.

If he is in fact responsible – it appears my only avenue to recover the cost of damage is through small claims court in Michigan. Sadly money is not an issue as he spends the entire summer on his 40 foot sailboat and has a great pension. I have told him numerous times that I would be willing to negotiate a fair settlement with him, but he now won’t even accept my phone calls and I’m stuck paying for a rental truck to pick up my eight carpets in Michigan.

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated!

He started going on area rugs or bath rugs when he was a year old. The cause was determined to be behavioral because we had a new baby. He never stopped so we don’t have any type of rugs in the home! Now, 9 yrs later he decides to go right in front of the refrigerator. He would sneak at first, now he’ll look right at you & go! He has TWO litter boxes that are constantly clean! The Vet ruled out infection so now it’s behavioral. Is there a way to stop this??

I pose this question to mothers because you know how important a vacuum can be when you have toddlers and children. I’m trying to find the best vacuum… and I don’t care about cost. My house has marble & granite floors, ceramic tile, and wood floors… with area rugs throughout. I’ve been forever looking for the best vacuum for all my needs. One that has good suction, has easy onboard tools that actually meet all needs, has a long enough hose that when being used, doesn’t tip the vacuum over. I don’t care if it’s with bag or bagless.
I have owned a kirby, a red devil, a Euro-Pro (love it but isn’t versatile enough), and currently wasted money on the Eureka Ultima (because it had the dusting wand… what a waste). I would like the advice of people who’ve had their vacuums for some time… not just bought it recently… since they all seem to be fine right out of the box. I’ve heard Dyson is good… but I’ve also read reviews that said it sucked. Only experience can tell.

I’m moving to a new house soon and am planning out my bedroom. The room has dark faux wood (laminate) flooring, and neutral beige colored walls. Because i’m not a big fan of flooring in bedrooms i bought a stylish area rug!

I have researched and researched and bought 3 vacuum cleansers over the past 6 months. From Kenmore canister vac to Dirt Devil Cyclonic Upright. I have all hardwood floors in my home w/ one room being linoleum and only 2 large area rugs. All the vacuums I bought just threw the dirt out the back. Well, I stopped at my parents home tonight, and low and behold there was a Kirby salesman there. After a complete demonstration of what all it could do…I bought it (ouch it was ,000!) I think I am nuts. It has the hardwood floor attachment and the shampooer attachment and has a lifetime warranty. Ok, now my question is this: Do any of you guys own a Kirby Sentria, and if so, do you like how it works and have any reviews you can give me? Thanks!!

Hi. My new bedroom is pretty large. I bought the Hemnes bedframe in black brown from Ikea. 3 walls of the room will be tan, with 1 wall being a cranberry colour. That’s the colour scheme. Cranberrry/raspberry, tan, and black. (I live in Canada btw.) So here is what I need help with:
