Any good ideas for getting rid of cat hair?
Looking for info on rugs safavieh, home dynamix rugs, oriental area rug, gabbeh persian rugs and more?
I share my home with 4 cats and while I love them dearly, every inch of my house feels like it is covered with cat hair. And the cat hair gets like embedded in the fibers of my clothes, rugs, and blankets. I buy lint rollers in bulk but I feel like as soon as I buy them they’re out and I need more. Does anybody have any tricks for battling the cat hair?
Is this in any way cat abuse?
With all these people screaming cat abuse at everything, I was just wondering if my actions towards my cat are considered cat abuse?
1. Tapping him on the head (one finger, not hard, not soft, just like you would tap a desk) when he does something I don’t want him too (walking in front of laptop, trying to eat off my plate)
2. Hissing at him and lashing my hand out at him (I don’t touch him, or hit him, just swipe at him, like some cats do to warn you to back off) if he is scratching the rug instead of his toys, condo, etc.
3. hold him by the scruff of the neck (not carry him around, but if he gets stuck somewhere, and I need to get him out, I pull him out by the scuff of the neck (b/c it’s not like i’m going to pull him out by the face)
4. Back to number 2, if he doesn’t get the message to not be in that location, I poke him on the side. Like a hiss, and lash out, with a poke to the side.
I’m saying this, because yesterday he was misbehaving, so I hissed and poked him, and he ran under the bed and started scratching at the bed, so I went under and hissed and poked him again (not hard, again, like you playfully poke a friend), and then he ran behind my desk. I look at him and he gives this adorable and said "Me-owwwww" like, "why are you doing this to me?" and I felt terrible.
I mean, you see the posts on here of people putting their cats in cages and spraying them with the hose and everything, but I don’t know if what I did is animal abuse?
For those who say you cannot train/correct a cat’s manners : you can. He doesn’t walk in front of the laptop anymore, just behind, and other little things as well.
How do I keep cats out?
we have 2 cats. we adopted them from a shelter 3 years ago. they get along well, but we can’t break them from scratching different surfaces.
the male: scratches couch arms, under doorways, and sheer curtains
the female: scratches rugs/carpets and window sills in an attempt to pull herself into the window
we have expecting our first baby and don’t want the cats wrecking the nursery by clawing the glider, decorative rug, curtains, and window sills. we have tried consistently for 3 yrs to use:
- citrus-scented spray on the furniture made to detract cats
- reprimands
- pet gates (they jump over them)
- trimming their nails
we don’t want to have to leave the door closed, because i want to be able to hear if the baby is crying (without always lugging the monitor around). also, if my hands are full with the baby, a cat will easily be able to squeeze in while i open the door and enter. if there is a gate and i’m carrying the baby, i’ll have to juggle baby while trying to undo the gate one-handed.
i don’t want to send our cats back to the shelter. any suggestions?
our contract from the shelter stipulates that we won’t declaw the cats because it is inhumane. i also researched it. it’s expensive (00+ per cat) and requires multiple anti-infection treatments every day for a month.
we tried dbl-sided tape on the kitchen counters and spray bottles. neither worked. the tape didn’t both the male enough to get off the counter and neither did the bottles. the female was easier to correct, but the male is very big and stubborn.
bengay cat?
My cat is crazy. Whenever I use Bengay on sore muscles, he’s all over me sniffing and licks my hands even after I washed them. It’s like cat nip to him. Are there any veterinarians out there that can answer this question? One time the tube of Bengay dropped on the rug and some came out. That crazy cat actually wallowed in it. Is it the menthol? I really want to know. Thank you
My cat is a purebred Bombay
I should add that when my kids were home, we had no less than4 cats at once, we also lived in a huge house. All other cats were outdoors cats. this crazy cat is strictly indoors because of the breed. I don’t want anything to happen to him becasue I live on a busy street now. I wonder, could it be he’s confined indoors as opposed to the others who were always out and came in when they wanted. first time I ever had a cat do this. I thought he was brain damaged until I viewed your answeres.
how do i get my cat to stop peeing on the carpet?
My parents just got a new carpet because she was peeing on the one we used to have. Now she is peeing on the new carpet and my brothers carpet. over protective kitty??
when my cat died 8 hours after giving birth. her babies needed to be taken care of and after three days of hand feeding them i found a foster mother that had a inbred child that was two weeks older then my babies. we named the foster kitty Pudgee. she tradgically died a few months ago when she was got caught under my bed…it crushed her. ever since then my male cat Norm (that came from the mother that died) has been peeing on the floor next to my bed and also in all the rugs in the house and has been more affectionate with me. is this in reaction to her death or something else. he is not yet neutered for good reason….he will be but not before we keep the blood line of precious, the mother that died. we will keep one kitten and the others are already spoken for even though they arent yet born. what can i do? is he stressin or is this normal? could he just be spraying? my roommates female is not yet spayed…has a appointment…she is 7 months and he is 5 months. what do you all think
i forgot to say this is something new. i have never had a problem with him going to the bathroom anywhere other than the litter box, he was trained till pudgee passed. it was a freak thing and our bed was old and we were moving it and it collapsed and she had run under just in time. please dont look at her death as me being irrisponible…i love my cats and i have fought for the lives of all but two. they were going to put her down just becusae her legs were a little deformed, and i refused to let that happen. i worked everyday to help her legs build stronger and make them more useable and she pulled through. i dont appreciate be considered an unfit care taker of cats because one of my cats was in a freak accident while moving an old bed.
i do not foster cats…a friend gave me a cat that had one mother that she had to take out of a foster home.the mother was returned 2 months later to foster care. i am not mean to my cats. we have 6 cats all in good health. i love them all and have never had problems with them till now. is he upset with the bed?

How do I get my cats to use a covered litter box?
I bought a covered litter box and they hate it! The day I set it up, one of my cats started to do his duty in the bathtub and the other did his duty on the bathroom rug. I really like the covered part of it because of the location of the litter box…it’s kinda out in the open and I would like it if I could keep it covered. are there any tricks to get my cats to like and use a covered litter box?
How do I keep my cat from scratching my new fabric chairs?
I bought two upholstered, armless chairs that seem iresistable to one of my cats. How do I keep her from scratching them? I don’t mind her laying on them, (even have a little rug on them when she’s inside) just don’t want her clawing up the sides. I’ve heard you should put aluminium foil around them, but it looks tacky. I’ve heard of using double stick tape but haven’t tried that yet. We`have a squirt bottle but can’t seem to catch her in the act. Proven ideas welcome. Thanks!
I think my Cat is sick, and I don't know what to do :(?
I am 16 years old and I have a Cat, a desert lynx, she is only 2 years old, and she has always been in exceptional condition. Yesterday, I noticed she was sneezing a lot (as in, at least two sneezes every 3-5 minutes), and today the sneezing is continuing, and she seems lethargic and her eyes are kind of runny. She is breathing louder as well. I have never had a sick pet before and I don’t know what to do. I gave her water, put her on a soft comfy rug in some sunlight, and handed her a few cat treats. Should I take her to the vet, or wait a little longer (seeing that a trip to the vet’s is pricey, If I don’t have to go, It would be great, but my cats wellfare comes first). Please help
Thank you
I was in North Carolina on sunday and she was in a kennel. I picked her up monday and she seemed fine. Is it possible she picked something up? The vet said that she is fully vaccinated, so Idk what kind of shots she has, but she has all of the required ones.
I feed her purina cat chow
My cat of 5 years is pooping on the carpet. I need suggestions!?
I have taken him to the vet. I have switched littler. Changed the box. Moving the cat box is out of the question. I have a 2 year old and I am pergnant. My toddler is running through poop! I am not suppose to be touching it! I am ready to get rid of this cat. I just don’t know what to do. I bought a carpet cleaner. I am so frusterated. Does anyone have anything to help me.
Thank you to all who have given me answers. I really do love the cat. We have had no big changes in our house. We have 2 cats. Both are sweet animals. It started when we went on vacation. I even had a house sitter sothey wouldn’t be alone. It is just getting expensive… all the carpet cleanings, vet visits, ect. I am feeling a little sad. Thank you for all your time.
What is a good, powerful vacuum to buy? What is the cost on it?
Our vacuum cleaner doesn’t work anymore and we looking at some at Wal Mart, and I can’t decide….. We recently were a little surprised by an in-home sales demo on a Kirby vacuum cleaner. It was an unexpected visit, and it was no surprise how much dirt and hair got pulled up out of the 10 feet of carpet the guy vaccumed. We were shocked at the astronimical price of 95.00 for the stupid thing, and even more shocked when the sales rep "negotiated" the price down to a mere 0.
Anyway, we didn’t buy it, and sent the guy packing. I’m not paying that much for a vacuum. But, it did work – and it worked well.
We have a 1 dog, 3 cats, and 3 ferrets, in addition to a bird, and horse barn-dirt that contributes to what ends up in our carpet, so I would like something as powerful of a cleaner (or close to) without the unreal price tag of a Kirby.
Some of the vaccuums by hoover at wal mart were around 0 – what would be a good vacuum for my needs??
Fleas on kittens!!! any help??
My two kittens both have fleas, They are around 12 to 14 weeks old. I started by giving both cats a couple baths and spraying them with a flea killing spray your supposed to spray on and rub in. I then bombed my house with 4 bombs that had a growth inhibiter in it! the spray seemed to kill the fleas but we still had them in the house and they got back on the cats. I then had to bomb the house again 3 or 4 days later with 6 bombs this time and applied a spot on flea control to both cats!! I noticed after a day or two we still had fleas in the carpet although they werent as bad as before. I went to the store and got a can of spray that is to be used directly on the carpet and protects for 120 days!! but we still have noticed fleas on the rugs and on the cats! any help here?
I did put a spot on flea protection on the cats. (thats the behind the neck stuff) I didnt get it from the vet but it was the best stuff they had at the store around 20 dollars. I even double dosed the tiger cat by using a second tube and applying it in several different spots on the cat and rubbing it in! I also yesterday doused both cats with a flea and tick powder that I found!
I need a reason for my cat peeing on my carpet?
My cat, she is 10 years old, began peeing on my carpet about 3 months ago. I began cleaning the litter box every couple of days. I have changed the litter. But she keeps doing it. We have 2 other cats and one of them is the others sister. We have 2 litter boxes as well. Do I need to buy another litter box? Should I put her down? Is there some meds that I can get for her? What should I do?
