how can I expect my sisal rug to hold up with pets?
Looking for info on rugs safavieh, home dynamix rugs, oriental area rug, gabbeh persian rugs and more?
I just bought a new sisal rug. It’s a nice one, from Ballard Designs. I noticed some irregularities in the texture, but this is natural, I believe, to this type of fiber. I have cats. I may have made a BIG mistake in choosing a sisal rug. I saw one of the cats popping his claws into the rug, but I yelled at him and he stopped. I did not notice any damage. But tonight, I did notice a few places that were kind of picked up. They looked like little tufts of the fiber, standing up. I’ve never had a sisal rug before. Is this a part of the natural wear of the weave? Or could it be damaged by the cats? I hope I just didn’t throw away 0 bucks.
Anyone else have a sisal rug and cats? Or am I an idiot?
How can I stop my kitten from peeing on a rug?
My boyfriend and I got 2 kittens a couple weeks ago. They were 8 weeks old and are 10 weeks old tomorrow. When we first got them we isolated them to a small room and a couple nights later expanded their zone to two rooms. One of the rooms is long and skinny and that’s where we keep the litterbox on one end and their food and water at the other. Right off the bat they used the litterbox and continued to do so for the next week. Everything was going great!
We had started letting the kittens out when we were home and let them explore our 2 bedroom condo except for the 2nd bedroom (we figured that would probably be too much at once). Last week, I noticed some hard things on the rug near the front door and realized it was poop, a lot of it. I washed the rug and we kept a close eye on the kittens and even watched to see if they would go near the rug. I also stepped up on keeping the litterbox clean, changing it every other night and keeping the litter fairly deep. When they did they would make strange purring sounds and I immediately took both of them to the litterbox and they did their business. We also bought a cat-deterrent spray and sprayed it on the rug every day. The kittens didn’t go near the rug until today when one of them did and peed. I picked her up as she was peeing and took her to the litterbox.
If I get rid of the rug, will that stop the problem? Is it the area that’s going to become the new litterbox or is it just the rug? I washed it and constantly sprayed it to get the smell out, I thought. Should I buy a spray bottle and spray the cats when they go near? I’m running out of options and want to train the kittens that peeing outside of the litterbox is NOT okay.
Why does cat urine soak through the bottom of the litter box?
We have five cats and two large litter boxes. We use the usual plastic litter boxes from any store. For some reason, the areas of the floor beneath the litter box have been soaked in cat urine, and the bottom of the box is wet. We have tried to use rugs underneath them, but the urine simply soaks into the rubber and we have to throw them away. Why does this happen, and how can we combat it? I have seen this happen on all surfaces, but the worst is on the hardwood downstairs. We put them on that surface because we don’t want the rugs get stained…there is no tile. Help!
Why would my cats use my area rugs for the bathroom?
I my daughter and I have three cats. 1 male 2 females. One or more are using the area rugs as a bathroom. We have added another litter box. Washed all the rugs with oxy clean for cats. I have told my other daughter not to bring her german shepard over anymore. I am trying to play with them more. Can anyone help me.
what should i do with my cat?
Hi, i have a really adorable cat.. i love her so much but i really have a big problem with keeping her.. i bought her like from 3 weeks ago and shes 6 months old.. shes so used to our house.. she loves us, sleeps with me, lets me pet her, licks my hand (trust me), and play too much..
the problem is that my mom hates cats.. and she wont let me release my cat in the house.. neither want me to keep a litter box inside my room afraid from the smell and dirts.. i have to go out with her to make her pee or poop.. so she’s always in my room and i noticed that my cat is always peeing on my bed sheets.. we have a rug.. we have things like sheets to sit on the floor.. but she only pee once outside my bed.. the rest of the times is peeing wherever she wants on my bed sheets.. its like her favorite or something..
the problem is, i cant be always with her to make her go pee outside.. neither put a litter box cuz of the smell nd dirtyness.. cuz i cant stand how many times my cat gives a surprise to me.. now i check my sheets every time i step in the room..
also i can understand my cat when she wants somthing.. like she meow’s too much and act crazy every time she wants to poop or eat.. but if she wants to pee i cant understand her.. she just meow’s quietly, no movement.. and when i leave her for a sec.. i find my surprise..
please help i cant stand the situation.. at least something i can do to make her pee in another place rather than my sheets.. or make her leave my sheets alone!
does advantage really work for cats and dogs?
So here’s the thing, I’ve had my dog for almost a year and didn’t have fleas. But I got 2 kittens about 2 months ago and they had fleas so now my dog has them bad all she does is scratch and I feel really bad because she’s leaving rashes in her body from scratch. I tried bathing her with flea shampoo and I bathe the cats with dawn. My apt is all rug so I tried to vaccum everything and wash their beddings but they always seem to come back.. I’m thinking of getting advantage for them. I know its expensive but getting outta hand I even had a flea jump on my bed.. Anyone with experience can give me some advice on what to do. If advantage really works. Answers very much appreciated
Planning On Moving In Collingdale,PA?
My family has had nothing but problems since we moved into the apartment we currently live in.We are planning on moving, but don’t really have the money to rent an expensive House or Apartment. We currently live in Collingdale,PA and because of my mother’s job we can’t move too far.The current land-lords we have now are totally un-exceptable.We used to have 2 cats and the land lords (Who have a cat downstairs in their deli) used to complain about a cat smell,so we have since got rid of the cats and the land-lords had complained they still smelled the cat in the Deli and that my mom was a liar. She then let them come up here and showed them the place and when they saw their was no cat in our apartment,They one day came to the door and said they are ripping the rugs up because thats where the smell is coming from.Right now we are living in a house with no rugs (And they constantly are making us put Bleach on the wood) and Land-lords who love to complain and look for things to complain about. Now that they’ve damaged the house they complain that the electric in their Deli is just about to be turned off and they tell my mom that if it does they will run their electric to the deli from our apartment. They even make my mom work down in their store and act like she is some slave at their command. You can see what it’s such a big-deal for us to move I’m sure..so in subject to my question..Does anyone know of any good sites that have Apartments or House’s for rent?
Cats keeping moving around rug! Advice?
I bought a new rug for in my kitchen (around 3×2 ft) and everyday I’ve come home its been completely moved and is usually upside down. I’ve seen the cats playing with it and I try to prevent them from playing, but it seems everytime I’m gone they’re at it again! Any helpful hints or tips on ways I can make my rug stick to my wood flooring and not end up becoming a play thing? =) It has the rubber stoppers so it doesn’t slide, but that hasn’t stopped my cats from thinking it is their new plaything!
My cat is afraid of the new rug?
Hi! i bought a new rug a few weeks ago to replace the old one in my living room. My cats would not even walk on it the first few days.
Now one will walk on it and occasionally lay on it very very carefully and not very relaxed.
The other cat will not even lay on it she will only run across it or pee on the corner!!
they loved the old rug… and usually don’t mind new things. How can i get them more relaxed with this new one?
I thought maybe it’s the material, i don’t know what it’s called but here it a picture of what it looks like (except mine is light cream colour) (found on google)

How do I stop my cat from urinating on chairs, area rugs, blankets…ect.?
I have two cats and two dogs. The cats are brothers. I utilize two litter boxes and clean them daily. I’ve taken the pisser to the vet and there is no medical problem.
Our dog just isn't working out?
A couple months ago we got a dog… she’s 3 years old…was supposedly potty trained, some kind of alaskan malamute mix, quiet, extremely friendly, and much smaller than average.
The first problem I noticed is that our cats absolutely hate her. But we dealt with that problem pretty well… The next problem was that she is by no means potty trained. She doesn’t let us know at all that she needs to go, and she has pooped numerously on the rug, the beds, the upstairs carpet, etc.
I’ve been dealing with that by taking her out more often, like every hour or two–which I really don’t need right now. I got a full grown dog because my daughter likes to go walking, and she’s too young to be walking without protection. Also because I don’t have to deal with the hassle of training a dog. But screw that, right?
The second problem, is that she hates my son. My son has been nothing but nice to her, letting her warm up at her own pace–but she hasn’t. Then we emailed the woman we got her from, who informed us that she hates most boys.
Well, thanks!
The other night she was chewing on a computer cord…so my son stood up, simply to take the cord away, and she jumped onto the coffee table.
The glass couldn’t support her, it broke, it flew and sliced my sons hand wide open. That was strike one of the last straw.
Now my daughter is very sick, so I have to walk the dog, take her out to potty, etc. But she doesn’t let me know when she needs to go potty–instead, she goes upstairs and poops on my bed.
I keep my door closed, but the cats know how to open it and sometimes do…and if they don’t open it, she poops in the hallway(on carpet)
The whole downstairs area is wood, so i wouldn’t mind AS MUCH if she did it there. But no.
We were also told that she’s very friendly, as I mentioned before..but whenever company comes over, my daughter walks past a stranger, or anything else pretty much, she barks, growls, and hides. She’s very timid and that causes her to be a threat.
She’s also not the breed we were told she is, but rather a pitbull mix. As much as I love the breed, there’s a reason I didn’t get one. They need to be socialized, supervised around other pets(the cats? stray dogs when walking?), and they can be aggressive. I’m not prepared to deal with that…
Also, because of her fearfullness, she barks at every squirrel that goes across the yard. That’s a problem becuase our neighbors are extremely touchy, and they will 911 us.
She has barely warmed up to me, and my son can’t take her outside to use the "potty" because she refuses to let him anywhere near her. I also just got a promotion, which means more hours and less time to take care of my sick daughter AND a dog that poops everywhere and barks at every living thing…and also, sometimes, hides from me.
So, I don’t know what my options are. I don’t want to rehome her…I would like another option. So any suggestions would be helpful.
Add*
She’s a housedog.
Friendly to my daughter, sometimes me, just no one else.
Took her like two weeks to warm up to us–at first she barely came out of her kennel, and refused to eat.
I took her to the vet when I realized she was pooping. They said her health is fine.
They said her health was fine, and she was just probably never trained.
I also think she may have been abused, due to various cuts and bruises, and the fact that she acts so frightened all the time.
what is the best carpet cleaner machine ?
I have 2 cats and one had an accident twice. As you know its not easy to get the smell out. I did buy urine off and can hand scrub it but do you think I should just get the spotbot by bissell and pay 0 or is there a cheaper carpet cleaner that works as well. I do have some other spots I would like to clean. We are moving in the summer and the house has no carpet is why i hate to spend the money.
My dog had fleas, seem to be mostly gone but still finding a few…are we safe?
So, my dog got fleas on Labor Day. Not from outside, but from inside of a house, didnt realize they were in there…long story….we noticed within a few minutes as my girlfriend felt a bite on her ankle. We got him out of there right away but because he was running around on a rug that was infested, they jumped on him. We noticed them immediately in his white fur areas (he’s mostly black but has white feet and chest and you could see spots)
We immediately went to the store, gave him a flea bath and picked off every one we could find. For the most part it seemed like they were off of him but it’s near impossible to catch them all. In the morning we went to the vet and got Advantage and applied that to him (yesterday). Havent seen many on the dog, but we have noticed a few live ones still around….falling off of him or just randomly on the floor…and when I say a few, I mean very few….like maybe 5-10 but it still worries me.
The vet said that some live ones may still come off of him but they will not survive and that is most likely what we are finding. We also have 2 cats who were given an Advantage treatment yesterday as well and one is pure white and we did not see even 1 on him so it appears everything is fine, but I’m just curious if anyone knows how this works (never happened to us before).
After a couple days will we be flea free? Or is the house now at risk?
I was told that if they were getting into our carpets and bedding and laying eggs that we would have already noticed tons of them since it’s been 48 hours…so I feel like we’re okay but I’m just looking for some answers. I dont want to flea bomb the house if it’s not necessary….that will require alerting the landlords upstairs and having them get out of their house and overall just be a huge inconvenience and if its not necessary then I dont want to bother. I don’t think the house is infested but the few I’ve seen do worry me just a bit…hopefully they just die off…..any opinions?
Also – he’s a very small dog – 5 pound tea cup chihuahua…so there wasnt a ton of them overall and it was easier to see what was on him vs. a large dog.

What does this BIZARRE dream mean?
I had a dream last night that I bought a bunch of kittens from the store and I named the smallest one Sarah Palin. She was so tiny and cute she was white with black spots, and she was only about the size of a hamster. I brought all the cats home, and then Sarah fell asleep on the kitchen floor so I moved her to the rug so she would be warm. But then her arms and legs and tail fell off, so I tried to put them back on her, but instead all this blood came pouring out and the next thing I knew she was dead. I said, "Oh no, I killed this cute little kitten!" and then I had to bury her in the backyard.
What could this dream POSSIBLY mean? I voted for Obama, so I know it’s not about being sad that Governor Palin lost. Also, I generally do not like cats.
I don’t like Sarah Palin so it’s not about feeling guilty for ruining her life. I’m not sure if it the dream had anything to do with her; I think her name only appeared in the dream because it’s all over the place these days. But you could be right about feeling guilty. I have been feeling guilty a lot over personal issues.
Amy R- Interesting interpretation, but that’s not exactly how I’m feeling about the election results.
curiositas49, I think you might be on to something! Seems like you really know alot about dream interpretation.
I wouldn’t put to much stock into "buying" the kittens because exchanging $ for goods (including live pets) is generally the way we do business in the US. Plus, I don’t actually remember purchasing the kittens, just picking them out in the store and bringing them home; the fact that I paid for them was a given. A bunch of kittens being openmindedness- possibly. I really like what you said about, "Naming the "smallest kitten" as Sarah Palin can very well indicate (unconscious) that you viewed her as the "least able"". I think that’s right on. She is in fact the least experienced and I believe she is the least qualified of all the candidates. I even remember looking at the Palin-kitten and thinking "i wonder if she’s too young to survive? maybe i should have left her with her mother a little while longer." That reflects my view that sarah palin should have stayed in AK
a little longer and gotten more experience before accepting John McCain’s request to be his VP. Perhaps, in the dream, I represented John McCain in picking out Sarah Palin and then later having his dreams of being president "killed" because of it. I don’t know about the black & white spots- i seem to recall that all the cats were black and white. As to the Palin kitten falling apart- I believe that this is where the dream ceased to be about McCain and Palin and was about my own life (though it also could have represented my belief that America would have fallen apart had Palin become president). In my own life I have failed to meet goals and work and have let people down although I have been trying hard to succeed. This has made me feel incompetent; and it is represented by my dream of trying to nuture a cute little kitten and accidentally killing it due to a careless mistake. I’ve been making lots of careless mistakes lately with negative results (though no dead cats, thankfully!)
"I also believe part of your dream is conveying an alert about the prevailing and formidable sexism that remains in our culture and most certainly in our politics." Nah, it’s my belief that Gov. Palin would still be incompentent even if she were male so I don’t see her loss as sexism. "When Sarah (kitten) falls asleep it may well represent that your unconscious reached a point where it recognized that Sarah was no longer a threat to anyone" I think that’s right on. "By saying, "I had to bury her in the backyard" does not indicate guilt (to me, anyway) but once again, shows your empathy, your inner compassion regarding humanity" I think that’s right on as well. I do see myself that way. Plus, it may not necessarily be about guilt- after all; when animals die in real life, we bury them so I wouldn’t read too much into that.
"As such, you are experiencing (in real-time) a co-mingling of confusion and guilt over one -or several- current issues" Yeah, that sounds about right.
