Looking for info on rugs safavieh, home dynamix rugs, oriental area rug, gabbeh persian rugs and more?

For the record, Asian is how you would describe people from the Asia and not as Oriental. Oriental is, in the past, was a bit demeaning and it really is more describing an object. Like, Oriental Rugs or Oriental Paintings. Please do not call Asians — Oriental.

For most people, it is because they do not know any better. But please, it can be insulting to most Asians to be referred to as that Oriental person.

By the way, many people do not realize this but Indians (the people from the country of India) are also Asians. As they are from the Continent of Asia.

I just saw a question about "how to flirt with a Japanese girl" … okay? what does it matter? Obviously the person likes her or else would not have posed the question, but it was an ignorant question.

I see myself as American with an Asian background and of course, I have Asian features but all in all, I am American and I love this country for what it stands for. I am grateful to have been naturalized here when I was just an elementary student and consider myself American first and foremost. But please do not call me Oriental… I am American or Asian-American but not Oriental or Chinese.
I have a very good friend who was telling me a story about her father in lawa and said that his new wife was Oriental. I don’t like it but I didn’t correct her then because it was late and I didn’t want to be rude at the time. I will tell her that "rugs are Oriental and people are Asian". (btw, I like that!!)

It is that the word Oriental has a long history of demeaning Asian people — categorizing them, objectifying them and alienating them.

Just a question, not really trying to be political or complaining. I think that in general, I listen to the way people talk when they say Oriental and just let it ride if it is just ignorance but I will mention it to my friends that they should say Asian just to be more educated about it.

btw, I am not Chinese. I am Taiwanese. So, I don’t like being called Chinese. Call me Asian if you don’t know what country I am from. Asian or Taiwanese. I don’t get insulted but I prefer not be called Chinese.

I am actually far from being Liberal. I have very conservative thoughts and can’t stand the direction America is going towards. (also another discussion) … let’s put it this way, since when do we need more government? since when was it a sin to be rich? (I thought it was the american way to be successful and to be given opportunities not handouts.) I love this country and I don’t like the way the direction it is going towards socialism, liberalism… I will get off my soapbox.

Salam everyone, I’m currently a college student and in my art class today our instructor informed us we would have to give a three to five minute presentation on a subject matter dealing with art. So me coming from an Islamic family, I did not hesitate to chose islamic rugs. My question is to you guys could you provide me with links to the history and information about Islamic rugs and if possible a little short film showing different types of Oriental rugs and Islamic arts would be great, in which I could convert it to DVD and show it to my class for extra credit. my story is funny but long gonna try to explain the easiest way .. i have 2 years gc, my husband is american we are still happily married .. i am a sales person who deals with oriental rugs soliciting at home by private shows.. the company i was working for sent me toVA , and the customer had previous problem with another oriental rug company and called the detectives claimed that we were selling fake stuff and trying to robb them .. anyways there was aset up in the house me and my coolige got arrrested first for soliciting without of a licence cause my company was based in nj which is misdenimor for va and they charged us after with trying to obtain money with false pretenses and larceny.. basicly fellony was not even prosecuted at the court and dismissed but since there was no licence i was advised to plea guilty which ended up with a fine and no soliciting probation for ayear in va.. now time is coming i am gonna apply for the 10 years gc how will that effect me need help pls

My new puppy is not quite house trained, and he’s ruining my floors! I’ve got hardwood floors with oriental rugs. Oriental rugs are really hard to clean, and I’m afraid I’m going to ruin them. The smell is terrible and I just want a clean house again. Can anyone recommend a solution? Help!
